People-Based Safety®

People-Based Safety® is an innovative new approach to safety that strives to go beyond behavior-based safety to focus on human thoughts and attitudes to promote safe behavior. Transforming the way employees conceptualize the way they work helps them approach each task in a safer manner. It helps make them more aware of the dangers associated with their work and the best way to approach them.

The program is based on four key skill areas—Acting, Coaching, Thinking and Seeing (ACTS). By mastering these important skills, employees may develop a new awareness about safety that will guide them as they work and can motivate them to care about their co-workers' safety, too.

By practicing the four skills of People-Based Safety® – Acting, Coaching, Thinking and Seeing – employees develop a safety consciousness that promotes their own safety  and the safety of their co-workers. It’s a complete system that teaches employees to think before they act in order to stay safe.

These skills put employees in control of their situations and make them responsible for their own safety. It may be an employer’s responsibility to provide training, tools and equipment to create a safe environment, but it’s an employee’s responsibility to use these materials to work safely. People-Based Safety® helps them do just that by providing a comprehensive system for thinking and acting safely.

People Based Patient Safety: The human factor in error prevention

The comprehensive People-Based Patient Safety® training curriculum is designed to help staff understand the human dynamics of error prevention and to create a Total Patient Safety Culture.
